(VOVWORLD) - At the International Conference of Solidarity with Ukraine on Tuesday, representatives of countries and institutions worldwide pledged more than 1 billion euros in immediate aid to help Ukraine get through a harsh winter as the Russia-Ukraine conflict batter its energy grid and other critical civilian infrastructure.
The conference was chaired by French President Emmanuel Macron, with the participation of 46 countries and 24 international organizations.
Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna said that more than 1 billion euros have been pledged, with some 415 million earmarked for energy, food, medical care, and transportation.
Addressing an online summit of the G7 from Tokyo on Tuesday, Japanese PM Kishida Fumio said Japan will provide non-refundable aid of 2.5 million USD to Ukraine to help it overcome a power shortage this winter.
Mr. Kishida also pledged to send generators and solar-powered lights to Ukraine along with 0.5 million USD, and said he will continue to reach out to international organizations to find essential equipment to keep Ukrainians warm this winter.
South Korea's foreign ministry said it intends to provide Ukraine with additional humanitarian aid of 3 million USD.
