Brussels will now seek easier routes to get the aid into Gaza. “The European Union will spend a total of 100 million euros in humanitarian aid for the civilians in Gaza,” von der Leyen told EU diplomats in Brussels.

On Monday, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell suggested a plan under which Israel could suspend its military operation in Gaza in return for the Red Cross getting access to captives held by Hamas.

Meanwhile, Dutch Defense Minister Kajsa Ollongren on Monday expressed concern about the situation in Gaza and believes that aid should reach people to prevent further disaster, calling for a humanitarian pause in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

Bosnian Defense Minister Helez, for his part, said schools and hospitals in Gaza cannot be military targets for the Israeli forces.

US President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu discussed the potential for "tactical pauses" in fighting in Gaza for humanitarian reasons and possible hostage releases in talks on Monday, according to a spokesperson.

White House spokesperson John Kirby said the U.S. and Israeli governments would continue to be in touch on such potential temporary pauses and that Biden and Netanyahu agreed to continue talks in the coming days.

Israel reopened a humanitarian corridor in the Gaza Strip on Sunday despite Hamas terrorists firing at soldiers attempting to facilitate the safe passage of civilians the previous day, a military spokesman said on Saturday.

Avichay Adraee, the Israel Defense Forces’ Arabic-language spokesman, tweeted on Saturday night that the military would again allow Gazan civilians to relocate southward away from the danger zone, on the Salah a-Din Road, Gaza’s main thoroughfare.
