(VOVWORLD) - At least 5,300 people are feared dead and more than 10,000 are missing after floods, triggered by Mediterranean storm Daniel, hit eastern Libya on Sunday. The Libyan government has called on the international community to help with the recovery.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said emergency response teams have been mobilized to help on the ground.
The governments of Germany, Finland, Italy, and Tunisia have sent emergency aid to Libya. Italy began flying in firefighting personnel and flood experts on Wednesday, and also sent a ship to provide medical and logistical support, the defence ministry said.
The United Arab Emirates has sent two planes carrying 150 tons of food and medical supplies, Algeria has allocated eight planes to transport humanitarian aid to Libya, and Turkey is sending three aircraft carrying a rescue team and humanitarian aid.
