Fifty-one cases were recorded in Ho Chi Minh City linked to the outbreak at the Revival Ekklesia Mission Vietnam, a Christian congregation in Go Vap district.
45 cases were logged in Bac Giang province and 15 others in Bac Ninh province, the two largest COVID-19 hotspots in Vietnam.
Ho Chi Minh city is speeding up contact tracing and extensive testing in an effort to early detect and quarantine positive cases. It has applied social distancing in order to break up the largest ever chain of virus transmission.
Close to 200 cases have been confirmed since the first case was detected at the Revival Ekklesia Mission Vietnam religious sect on May 26. Many other cases linked to the sect were also found in nearby localities such as bac Lieu, Binh Duong, Long An and Dak Lak provinces.
The Ministry of Health data shows that the virus, since its emergence in late April, has spread to 34 cities and provinces nationwide, with 4,356 cases confirmed. Bac Giang is the hardest hit locality, registering more than 2,200 cases.
