The northern border province of Quang Ninh on Monday announced the addition of the Dau Ram ceramic vase and the Ngoa Van-Yen Tu golden box at an exhibition featuring the life of King Tran Nhan Tong in the 13th century who ceded his throne to his son and became a monk. The Dau Ram ceramic vase which dated back 4,000 years is shaped like a bamboo papoose with a square base. Baked without a kiln, it is the only representative of ceramic art of the Phung Nguyen culture in the northern region.

The Ngoa Van-Yen Tu golden box is made of pure gold representing a blooming lotus with sophisticated decorations. It weighs more than 56 grams and has a diameter of 4.9 cm. Its cover is crafted with 4 layers consisting 87 pieces of gold to symbolize the petals of the lotus.

“The treasures will be preserved in a specially-built room. More steps will be taken to highlight the value of these items,” said Pham Dinh Phong, Deputy Director of the Cultural Heritage Department.

In addition to the vase and the box, the ongoing exhibition is showcasing other items excavated at the Thang Long Imperial Citadel in Hanoi and in Quang Ninh province, shedding more light on the history and culture of the Tran dynasty which ruled Vietnam from the 13th to the 15th centuries.
