Mr. Son met Japan’s Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Iwao Horii on Saturday on the sidelines of the Ministerial Conference of the OECD in Tokyo. The Deputy FM suggested that Japan strengthens coordination and opinion sharing in global forums, including the UN, APEC, ASEAN, G20, and Mekong-Japan cooperation. He called on Japan to continue its support for Vietnam and ASEAN over East Sea issues. Mr. Son said he hopes Japan will maintain its position as the largest foreign investor in Vietnam, increase investment in auxiliary industry, manufacturing, and hi-tech agriculture, continue to provide ODA for Vietnam’s infrastructure, and facilitate Vietnam’s exports, mostly agricultural produce.

Mr. Horii praised Vietnam’s active contributions to the Southeast Asia Regional Program at the Ministerial Conference of the OECD. He expected that economic cooperation between two countries will develop steadily and that Vietnam will crate favorable conditions for bilateral cooperative projects.
