Yonhap news agency quoted the Republic of Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff as saying that the DPRK was firing artillery shells near the Northern Limit Line (NLL), following 130 shells on Wednesday. No shells have landed in the Republic of Korea’s waters so far.
The live-fire drill, which is expected to continue until late Friday, is being conducted near the islands of Yeonpyeong and Baengnyeong, 10 kilometers from the Republic of Korea’s border and 1 kilometer from the NLL. The south-western command of the Korean People’s Army sent prior notice of the drill to the Republic of Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff via military communications.
