(VOVword)- The 15th Shangri-La Dialogue ended in Singapore on Sunday after 3 days of busy and open discussions.

Vietnamese Deputy Defence Minister Nguyen Chi Vinh

After the 4^th session entitled “Challenges in dispute settlement”, Vietnamese Deputy Defence Minister Nguyen Chi Vinh talked with a VOV reporter in an interview on Vietnam’s stance over regional security. Mr. Vinh highlighted 2 major issues: the East Sea solutions and countries’ wish to defuse tensions. He said the meeting is an opportunity for Vietnam to study other countries’ strategies and map out Vietnam’s own policy of peaceful defence: “In the context of complicated situation, we should realise our policy by affirming our sovereignty over islands in Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) and continental shelves. We protest all other claims because our claim bears historical significance and is in line with international law. We intend to settle dispute by peaceful means and abiding international law. Why is international law not observed correctly? We want peaceful negotiations and a correct interpretation of international law so as to settle problems”.

Deputy Defense Minister Vinh said those solutions are not new but associated with the current complicated situation in the East Sea, particularly the build-up of artificial islands.
