East Sea situation, a concern to HCM city’s People’s Council
(VOVworld) – The 14th session of HCM city’s People’s Council opened on Tuesday. High on the agenda will be additional appointments to the jury at the district and municipal levels, the adoption of a resolution on supervision of the city’s administrative reform program since 2011, and socio-economic development since China’s illegal placement of its oilrig in Vietnamese waters. Amid the complications in the East Sea, the city is working on a project to develop support industries in order to reduce imports from the Chinese market while ensuring security and order in industrial parks, processing zones and residential areas.
Nguyen Thi Quyet Tam, Chairwoman of the Municipal People’s Council, said: “In the current situation, as Vietnam’s economic engine, HCM city should fulfill its targets and develop practical actions to demand the withdrawal of China’s rig from Vietnamese waters.”
Da Nang’s People’s Council convened its 10th session on the same day. The Council Chairman and Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee Tran Tho said the meeting would approve a resolution to protest China’s violation of Vietnam’s sovereignty: “The meeting will decide measures to fulfill this year’s targets and pass a resolution opposing China’s violation of Vietnam’s sovereignty. I hereby call on the delegates to contribute their opinions in an open and frank manner.”
