East Sea tops the agenda of International Seminar on Indian Ocean
(VOVworld) – An international seminar on emerging geopolitical issues in the Indian Ocean opened in New Delhi on Friday.
Professor Baladas Ghoshal of the Society for Indian Ocean Studies said the East Sea issue has emerged as a hot spot amid China’s construction activities and militarization of facilities in the area. Indian Naval Major General O P Sharma cited international law to prove that China’s claim of most of the East Sea is not in line with international law and the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, of which China is also a member. Vo Xuan Vinh of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences condemned China’s unilateral actions in the East Sea and asserted Vietnam’s sovereignty over Truong Sa and Hoang Sa archipelagoes. He also highlighted India’s role in ensuring stability and security in the East Sea.
