EC considers possibilities to stop gas transfer via Ukraine
(VOVworld) - The European Commission plans to present in October the results of stress tests on the vulnerability of its energy systems to interruptions of gas supplies coming from Russia via Ukraine, said EC President Jose Manuel Barroso on Wednesday. The EU launched stress tests to see how reliable its energy system would be in various scenarios of partial or total interruption of gas supplies coming through Ukraine, Barroso told a press conference Wednesday, adding that the Commission would be ready to present the report with the test results by October’s European Council meeting.
Earlier, the EC stressed the importance of 3-party talks among EU, Russia, and Ukraine regarding oil and gas supply but their 3-party talk held mid last month ended without results. Ukraine and the EC accused Russian Gazprom company of not making any concessions. The spokesperson for
EU Energy Commissioner Gunther Oettinger, Sabine Berger, said another 3-party talk is to take place in mid August.
