In the first working session, the delegates discussed ways to accelerate economic recovery through trade activities and initiatives. Vietnam's Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien emphasized Vietnam's three priorities in the process: economic reconstruction and recovery, domestic trade, and investment. Vietnam continues to be a strong supporter of an open, balanced, non-discriminatory, multilateral trading system based on rules and principles. Vietnam will work closely with the World Trade Organization (WTO) to achieve practical results at the 12th WTO Trade Ministers Meeting (MC12), said Dien.

Vietnam supports initiatives to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic while accelerating the process of exchanging and negotiating fisheries and agricultural subsidies and reforming the WTO, he said. In 2021, APEC will continue to strengthen cooperation to ensure the stability and development of the multilateral trading system and the WTO in particular through capacity building and technical support for members to implement the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement, raising awareness about e-commerce negotiations in the WTO, sharing information and discussing challenges of intellectual property rights protection in digital commerce, Dien added.

The Ministers discussed promoting economic recovery through economic and technical cooperation tools during the second working session on Tuesday.
