But during an online cabinet meeting on Friday, the Prime Minister warned that more COVID-19 infections will be detected in the near future as thousands of Vietnamese citizens stranded in epidemic-hit countries are repatriated. He cited the Ministry of Health’s report that 24 Vietnamese nationals who returned from Russia on Wednesday had been exposed to the virus that causes COVID-19. This came soon after 17 Vietnamese citizens returning from the United Arab Emirates tested positive for coronavirus.
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said: “According to the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, Vietnam has reported no new transmission cases in the community in nearly a month. This is good news for the Party, State, and people of Vietnam. This is also an opportunity to attract investment for national development when many countries are still battling widespread infection of the virus.”
PM Phuc warned of complacency amid complex developments of pandemic around the world. He suggested a ‘new condition” to be set up to help effectively fight epidemic and revive the national economy. He added that at Saturday’s dialogue with businesses, he listened to their opinions and encouraged them to overcome difficulty, resume production, generate jobs, and contribute to economic growth.
