Sisi promised to guarantee the right of the Palestinians to build their own independent state with its capital in East Jerusalem, a presidential spokesman said in a statement following Sisi's meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Cairo. President Sisi said the Palestinian cause is always near the top of Egypt's priorities.

President Abbas updated the Egyptian president on recent Palestinian efforts to mobilize international support for a two-state solution on US efforts to revive the Middle East peace process.
