(VOVworld)- Egypt's General-Prosecutor Hesham Barakat opened an investigation Saturday into overnight clashes near Rabaa El-Adawiya Mosque in Cairo's Nasr City district that left 65 people dead and nearly 300 others injured. In a press conference on Saturday, Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim blamed the Muslim Brotherhood for deliberately causing the crisis for political interests and said that the police only used tear gas on the crowds. However, the Muslim Brotherhood rejected the blame saying that the police used firearms against the demonstrators causing scores of deaths. The spokesperson for this organization criticized the police for using illegal firearms against demonstrators. US Secretary of State John Kerry said in a statement that he was deeply concerned about the bloodshed. US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel called on warring parties in Egypt to restrain from violence. The same day, the UN Secretary General Ban Kii Moon condemned the violence in Egypt and called on Egyptians to solve disputes through dialogues.
