(VOVworld) – Egypt will coordinate with the UN to host an expanded conference for Libyan tribes later this month in an effort to seek measures towards resolving the political and security crisis in Libya.

According to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, the conference, which aims to support the unity of the Libyan people, will contribute to pushing forward political dialogue and national reconciliation as well as the formation of a unity government. The ministry also highlighted the important role of the tribes and civil society in restoring stability and supporting Libya’s parliament and the internationally recognized government based in Tobruk. The ministry warned that the current situation would intensify the challenges faced by the country including arms and drugs smuggling and illegal immigration and said that such challenges have become a significant regional and international concern.
