(VOVworld) – Egypt’s Presidential Election Commission (PEC) on Sunday said Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and Hamdeen Sabahi were Egypt's final contenders for the 2014 presidential race, scheduled to take place on May 26-27.

The PEC’s spokesman Abdel-Aziz Salman said at a press conference on Sunday that the Commission had examined the documents of both contenders and concluded that both candidates met the eligibility requirements to stand for the election.  Salman also revealed that the commission had granted approval to 85 domestic and international organisations to monitor the elections. 36 national and international media institutions were granted approval to cover the elections. Campaigning will start on 3 May and last until midnight on May 23.
