EU extends economic sanctions against Russia

(VOVWORLD) - The Council of the European Union on Monday extended its restrictive economic measures against Russia for another six months, due to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. The sanctions will be extended until July 31, said the EU Council in a press release.

As long as the Russia-Ukraine conflict continues, the EU says it will leave in force all current measures and will add additional measures, as necessary.

The EU began economic sanctions against Russia on July 31, 2014, and has kept extending them due to Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine since February 2022.

So far the EU has adopted 12 packages of sanctions against Russia, and Russia, in response, has taken countermeasures.
