(VOVWORLD) - The EU on Wednesday announced a plan to issue a Digital Green Certificate to facilitate safe movement inside the EU during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Digital Green Certificate will serve as an assurance that a person has been vaccinated against COVID-19, received a negative test result, or recovered from COVID-19.
The plan faces stiff resistance from some EU countries, a key concern being that people still without access to vaccines would be discriminated against. EU commission spokesman Eric Mamer said Tuesday that the certificate is not a vaccine passport but a document that describes the medical situation of its owner.
