EU ready to offer UK “ambitious” trade deal
(VOVWORLD) - The European Union’s Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier said on Tuesday the EU is ready to offer Britain an ambitious post-Brexit free trade deal but asking Britain to respect European regulatory standards.
Barnier said there is every reason for the future partnership to be ambitious. There must be an orderly withdrawal from the EU, respecting the integrity of the single market and establishing a “level playing field”. That is why the EU has started internal preparations with member states to be ready to talk about the future as soon as the two will have agreed on how to settle the past.
Barnier said it’s essential to resolve the conditions of the withdrawal including its consequences for Ireland and financial services.
