EU rejects US reimposition of UN sanctions on Iran
(VOVWORLD) - The EU rejects the US’s unilateral attempt to “snap back” UN sanctions on Iran, according to EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell.

Borell said on Sunday the US "cannot initiate the process of reinstating UN sanctions under UN Security Council Resolution 2231," because Washington unilaterally withdrew from the Iran nuclear deal two years ago, adding that “sanctions lifting commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action continue to apply.”
Borrell pledged to continue to ensure the preservation and full implementation of the deal by Iran and other participants. He described the deal as a key pillar of the global non-proliferation architecture, and called on all parties to preserve the agreement and refrain from "action that could be perceived as an escalation in the current situation."
