A two-day EU summit opened in Brussels yesterday/ on Thursday. High on the agenda are: support for small and medium-sized enterprises, youth unemployment, the establishment of banking unions and EU expansion and external policy. Prior to the summit, European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso sent a letter to all EU heads of state and government,  calling for a consensus to resolve the challenges the EU is facing.
