The EU asked Greece to provide enough staff and fingerprint scanners to register migrants and to check their travel documents against the Schengen Information System, Interpol records and national databases. Greece was also asked to arrange accommodation for migrants during the period of registration, accelerate returning refused cases and tighten border patrols. If Greece fails to comply with the recommendations, the EU said it will consider authorizing EU member countries to exceptionally extend border controls within the Schengen area, including around Greece, for up to two years.
