Europe 'shocked' by report of U.S spying
European officials reacted with fury on Sunday to a report that the U.S National Security Agency spied on EU offices. EU expressed anger and warned that if the report is accurate, it will have tremendous repercussions. The same day, Martin Schulz, President of the European Parliament stressed that if the allegations prove to be true, it would be an extremely serious matter which will have a severe impact on EU-US relations. On behalf of the European Parliament, Martin demanded full clarification and require further information speedily from the US authorities with regard to these allegations. German newspaper “Der Spiegel” reported last Friday that, based on confidential documents provided by former CIA Agent Edward Snowden, US intelligence agencies have not only installed spyware on EU office systems but also hacked into internal computer systems for information. Similar equipment was found at the EU representative office in New York.
