(VOVworld) -  The Austrian police on Saturday quoted an intelligence service’s warning as saying that many European capitals are likely to suffer shooting or bomb attacks on 2016 New Year, prompting police across the continent to increase security measures.

According to the intelligence service, on the days between Christmas and the New Year in crowded spaces numerous European capitals could be attacked involving explosives or a shooting.

Several possible names of potential attackers were mentioned but investigations have so far yielded no concrete results.

The Austrian police have strengthened security controls in Vienna and many other cities.

The warning was made following the terror attack in Paris which killed 130 people  and 350 others injured.
