Members of the European Parliament called on the European Commission and on EU member states to place a temporary freeze on the on-going accession negotiations with Turkey. Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan immediately protested the vote.
Austria and Luxembourg have supported halting the negotiations , but Germany, France, and several other EU countries are worried Turkey will stop cooperating with the EU on migrants, as the refugee crisis grows increasingly complicated.
