The exhibit is at the Le Ba Dang Arts Centre in the former imperial city of Hue during Hue Festival 2022 until next Thursday.

Items have been arranged into three categories: attire of the royals, attire of the mandarins and soldiers, and attire of new graduates of the imperial examinations. The Nguyen Dynasty set strict regulations on the dress mode for each social class, says Dinh Thi Hoai Trai, Director of the Hue Fine Arts Museum.

She said, “The costumes of the Nguyen Dynasty have great historical and cultural significance and are part of Vietnam’s national heritage.”

“Through this exhibit, we want to give the public an overview of the Nguyen Dynasty's royal clothing, revealing the aesthetics of the period and also the strict rules of hierarchical ranking. The exhibit helps to honor, preserve, and promote the beauty of Vietnamese royal costumes,” said Trai.
