Extended social distancing wins public approval

(VOVWORLD) - 12 localities deemed to have a high risk of COVID-19 transmission, including Hanoi, Quang Ninh province, and Ho Chi Minh City, will continue to implement social distancing measures for another one or two weeks, or even longer if infections continue to be detected.

Extended social distancing wins public approval - ảnh 1360,000 people leaving/entering Quang Ninh province have health monitor during the 15-day social distancing April 1st.

The decision was made by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc at a meeting on Wednesday of the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control. The Prime Minister agreed to classify localities nationwide into three groups – high risk, medium risk, and low risk – and impose different precautionary measures on each. The groups will be reviewed regularly and adjusted in accordance with the real situation.

People in Quang Ninh province endorsed the extension as necessary to prevent further virus transmission.

Nguyen Thi Huyen Trang, who lives in Ha Long city, said: “I agree with continuing social distancing to protect every individual in the community, even though our daily lives are being disrupted. People and the government should stand shoulder to shoulder. Prevention is better than cure.”

Mai Xuan Son, who has earned no income from his electronics shop lately, also agrees with prolonging social distancing measures for the safety of all. “If seven more days or longer of social distancing can protect everyone’s health, then we should endorse the Prime Minister’s decision. But I support a flexible use of social distancing measures in different localities and sectors to allow at least some economic activities and daily lives to resume,” said Son.
