(VOVWORLD) - President of the Philippines, Ferdinand Marcos, is scheduled to pay a state visit to China from January 3-6, 2023. This is his first visit to China as President at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping.

China is currently the Philippines' largest trading partner. Bilateral relations have been strained at times due to disputes in the South China Sea. President Ferdinand Marcos says he wanted to expand cooperation with China in economy, trade, investment, and military.
President Xi Jinping also repeatedly expressed his goodwill to promote bilateral relations with the Philippines and wished the Philippines maintaining an independent foreign policy.
