Addressing the award ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador Pham Quoc Tru encouraged martial artists to expand teaching and learning to spur the development of Vovinam Viet Vo Dao. Introduced to Algeria in the 1970s, Vovinam has grown in popularity and is now practiced by more than 20,000 people there.
Vovinam Viet Vo Dao was founded by Nguyen Loc in 1936 to provide an efficient method of self-defense after a short period of study.
