(VOVworld) - The central province of Quang Tri held the annual flag-hoisting ceremony on Sunday at Hien Luong Bridge across Ben Hai River, which divided north and south Vietnam during the war, to mark the 42nd Reunification Day (April 30) and the 45th anniversary of Quang Tri liberation (May 1).

According to Nguyen Van Hung, Secretary of the provincial Party’s Committee, the Hien Luong-Ben Hai historical relic is the symbol of the confidence, determination, and strength of Vietnamese people in their liberation war. He said at the ceremony: “We are here, at the Hien Luong flag pole next to the Ben Hai river and Hien Luong brige, to recall our memories of a hard yet glorious period. In this sacred moment, we commemorate the enormous sacrifice of our predecessors, who sacrificed thier lives to reunify Vietnam.”
After the flag-hoisting ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh burned incense and laid wreaths at the Truong Son and Road 9 national martyrs’ cemeteries and the Quang Tri ancient citadel memorial monument to pay tribute to soldiers who died for Vietnam’s liberation.
