(VOVworld) - The central province of Quang Tri held the annual flag-hoisting ceremony on Sunday at Hien Luong Bridge across Ben Hai River, which divided north and south Vietnam during the war, to mark the 42^nd Reunification Day (April 30) and the 45^th anniversary of Quang Tri liberation (May 1).

According to Nguyen Van Hung, Secretary of the provincial Party’s Committee, the Hien Luong-Ben Hai historical relic is the symbol of the confidence, determination, and strength of Vietnamese people in their liberation war. He said at the ceremony: “We are here, at the Hien Luong flag pole next to the Ben Hai river and Hien Luong brige, to recall our memories of a hard yet glorious period. In this sacred moment, we commemorate the enormous sacrifice of our predecessors, who sacrificed thier lives to reunify Vietnam.”

After the flag-hoisting ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh burned incense and laid wreaths at the Truong Son and Road 9 national martyrs’ cemeteries and the Quang Tri ancient citadel memorial monument to pay tribute to soldiers who died for Vietnam’s liberation.
