Lai Chau was the worst hit province, with five dead and three missing. Local authorities have evacuated nearly 50,000 households affected by the floods or living in high risk areas.
In Lao Cai province, damages are mainly in Van Ban district. Tran Ngoc Son, Chief of the Administrative Office Manager of the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee, told VOV: “We are trying to reopen roads blocked by landslides. Heavy machines have been deployed to clear blockages.”
Total damage in Lao Cai, Ha Giang, and Lai Chau provinces has been estimated at 3.3 million USD so far. Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has sent an emergency directive to local authorities urging them to take steps to prevent further flooding and minimize damage to people and property.
