Former President Nguyen Xuan Phuc hands over President duty

(VOVWORLD) - Former President Nguyen Xuan Phuc on Saturday handed over the duty to Acting President Vo Thi Anh Xuan.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Phuc was assigned to be the Vietnamese President by the Party and State from April 5, 2021 to January 18, 2023. During this period, President Phuc effectively implemented his duty according to the Constitution and law and tasks assigned by the Party Politburo and the Party Secretariat.

In his address, Permanent member of the Party Secretariat Vo Van Thuong said: “During several terms, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Phuc and the Party Central Committee, the Party Politburo led the entire Party, people and army to overcome difficulties and gained achievements in all aspects. At his personal wish and with thorough consideration, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam agreed to allow Mr. Nguyen Xuan Phuc to step down from his positions, quit his job, and retire.”

Mr. Thuong expressed his wish that former President Nguyen Xuan Phuc would continue to contribute to the Party and the nation.

Mr. Thuong wished Acting President Vo Thi Anh Xuan fulfilment of her duty according to the Constitution.

On January 18, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue signed the Notice on the exercise of the right of President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam for Ms. Vo Thi Anh Xuan. Xuan will hold the position of Acting President until the NA elects the new President.
