(VOVworld) - French President Francois Hollande said on Tuesday that talks on Britain exiting the European Union had to be concluded by 2019 and that the decision to leave the bloc was irreversible.

Speaking to French ambassadors in Paris, Mr. Hollande said British Prime Minister Theresa May had tough decisions to make and that she needed time, but that she could not wait on triggering exit talks. The statement was made as the spokesperson for the British Prime Minister, said the government was not necessary legally obliged to hold a vote in Parliament on the triggering Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty to leave the EU. Earlier, British MPs called on a vote in Parliament on this issue. The spokesperson said the people’s aspirations needed to be respected.
