The daily newspaper Le Figaro described in detail the celebration, themed "70 years of Dien Bien Phu: Vietnam celebrates with guest France". Its article said the attendance of France’s Minister of the Army and Secretary of State in charge of Veterans and Memory is proof of ongoing reconciliation. The paper said the relationship between the two countries, once opponents in war, is now very friendly.
An article published in the French National Defense Magazine said the fall of the French army at Dien Bien Phu accelerated Geneva Accord negotiations. 70 years later, the participation of Minister Lecornu at the Dien Bien Phu celebration symbolizes France’s desire to build new relationships in Southeast Asia.
The newspaper l'Humanité said Dien Bien Phu was an important step in decolonization and an enduring symbol of liberation from colonial oppression and regaining national independence.
