He called the failure a "collective betrayal". The statement came after Lebanon's designated Prime Minister Mustapha Adib stepped down on Saturday citing a failure to develop a new government. Macron said:
“I think Lebanese political groups have chosen to prioritize their own interest rather than that of their country. They have chosen to push Lebanon into chaos and a game of foreign forces, rather than receive international help, which is what the people need.”
Macron said Lebanon has 6 weeks to form a new government or it will be sanctioned.
