G20 aims to raise 1.5 billion USD for global pandemic response fund
(VOVWORLD) -Indonesia, which holds the rotating presidency of the Group of leading developed and emerging economies (G20), said on Friday that they aim to mobilize 1.5 billion USD for future global pandemic response funds.
Indonesian Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin told the media that the US, the EU, Indonesia, Singapore and Germany have so far committed about 1.1 billion USD to this fund.
He said he hopes the G20 can hit its 1.5 billion USD goal by the end of 2022, and plans to raise the same amount in 2023.
Previously, G20 members reached an agreement in principle to establish a multi-billion-dollar fund to fund surveillance, research and vaccine activities in lower-to-middle income countries.
