Speaking at a meeting with representatives from the garment and textile sector, which employs nearly 3 million workers, President Phuc said they need to be flexible to determine priorities for each period based on the development of the pandemic.
He said the sector needs to implement disease prevention measures while employers should promptly help workers settle any difficulties. He suggested businesses in different localities optimize their capability to maintain the global supply chain and accelerate digital transformation and improve their productivity.
More than 13,000 garment and textile businesses are making efforts to overcome difficulties to maintain production amid the spreading COVID-19 pandemic.
Vietnam has surpassed Bangladesh as the world’s second largest exporter of ready-made garments, according to the World Trade Organization.
