(VOVworld)- The Russian global energy company Gazprom will no longer offer Ukraine discounted gas prices, said Gazprom CEO Aleksey Miller on Tuesday.
During talks with Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Mevedev, Miller said Ukraine can no longer repay the amount specified by its contract. So far, Ukraine has paid only half of its obligation for 2013. On December 17, 2013, Russia signed a gas discount agreement that reduced the price of Russian gas to one third for 3 months. This agreement was part of a series of aid packages to help Kiev boost and modernize its economy. After April 1st, gas sold to Ukraine will be priced at 406 USD per 1000 cubic meters instead of at the current price of 268.5 USD.
