(VOVWORLD) - Kuwait Emir Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah on Tuesday called an end to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) summit within hours of its start amid the ongoing diplomatic dispute surrounding Qatar.

The sudden end of the meeting in Kuwait City raised new questions about the future of the GCC, which consists of Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.
The Kuwaiti emir’s decision came after the UAE earlier in the day announced a new partnership with Saudi Arabia separate from the GCC. Sheikh Sabah called for an adjustment to GCC’s regulations in an effort to maintain its status.
