(VOVworld) – German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Francois Hollande, and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko met in Berlin on Monday to discuss the Ukraine crisis and measures to promote the full implementation of the Minsk agreement. Speaking to the media following the meeting, Ms. Merkel confirmed the importance of the Minsk agreement, which was a firm foundation towards a peaceful solution for the Ukraine crisis. She highlighted the need to enhance the role of the Normandy Quartet- Germany, Ukraine, France, and Russia- in achieving peace in Ukraine. She did not rule out the possibility of another Normandy Quartet summit attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
At the Berlin meeting, the German, French, and Ukrainian leaders discussed ways to increase humanitarian aid to Ukraine, the release of prisoners, and trade relations between Ukraine and Russia. The meeting was primarily symbolic as the three leaders could not remove the impediments to the Minsk agreement in less than an hour.
