Germany, Nordic countries call for more Ukraine aid

(VOVWORLD) - German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and leaders of several northern European countries reiterated their call for more aid to Ukraine, especially its air defense system, at a Security Summit in Stockholm on Monday.

Sweden said it wants to join forces with Germany and Poland to safeguard the Baltic Sea.

At a press conference before the summit, Scholz said Europe needs to take concrete actions to support Ukraine. Last month, Germany agreed to send Ukraine a Patriot air defense system, and Scholz urged other European countries to "look at their stocks" and provide air defense systems to Ukraine.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said Ukraine would struggle to defend itself without Western equipment and emphasized the urgency of swiftly transferring the air defense system to Ukraine.

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said the Security Summit between Germany and the Nordic countries centered on discussions about the situation in Ukraine, security policy focused on the risk of hybrid warfare, and preparations for the NATO Summit in the US in July.
