This has been the third consecutive day that single-day COVID-19 new infections exceed 3 million. In the last 24 hours, 3.16 million new cases were reported, 795,600 of them in the US, the highest daily figure of any country in the world. The most deaths were recorded in the US so far (2,100), followed by Russia and India.
As the Omicron variant of the coronavirus spreads fast, the Biden administration announced that the White House will launch a new website next week where Americans can request free COVID-19 test kits at no cost but supplies will be limited to just four free tests per home. The US will purchase 500 million at-home tests to launch the program.
