(VOVWORLD) -The Long Tong or “Going to the field” festival began in Chiem Hoa district, Tuyen Quang province on Friday. The annual festival of the Tay ethnic people has attracted visitors from other ethnic groups and provinces.

The event, which opens on the 8th day of the new lunar year, is a religious ritual dedicated to various genies of land, water, rain, and thunderstorms to win their blessing for verdant crops and prosperity for villagers throughout the year. The festival was named a national intangible cultural heritage in 2013.
