The British chef paid a visit to Can Tho in 2012 and he praised Hu tieu, a common dish in almost every market in Mekong delta, saying he had never eaten a vermicelli dish like vermicelli on a boat at Cai Rang floating market in Can Tho.
During his attempt to make Banh cuon, Ramsay expressed surprise that the dish looked simple yet sophisticated and asked the chef to be skillful. Gordon said at the time: “Fortunately I wasn’t born in Vietnam, otherwise I would just be a bad cook”.
Gordon Ramsay is one of the world’s most famous chefs, owner of Michelin-starred restaurants, and judge of culinary programs US Masterchef, Hell's Kitchen, and Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares.
He was appointed an OBE by Queen Elizabeth in the 2006 New Year Hornours list for services to the hospitality industry.
