The visit takes place as the two countries celebrate the 45th anniversary of their diplomatic ties, which were elevated to a Strategic Partnership in March 2018. It underlines Vietnam’s policy of independence, self-reliance, and multilateralization and diversification of foreign relations.
During a recent interview on the threshold of the visit by the Governor-General, Australian Ambassador to Vietnam Craig Chittick said enhancing the relationship is a priority for both sides. Many noteworthy milestones have been reached over the last 45 years, Chittick said.
Australia and Vietnam have cooperated on maritime security for a long time, the Ambassador said, a vital part of their security cooperation. Ambassador Chittick said 2018 should be a great year for Vietnam and Australia to strengthen their economic, trade, and security cooperation.
