That would be in line with the May 1 date pegged by President Donald Trump for potentially re-opening parts of the country for business. Anthony Fauci, Trump's pandemic guru, told CNN on Sunday that it could probably start at least in some ways, maybe next month, but it has to be cautious.
Mr. Fauci also indicated that decisions on loosening economic and social distancing guidelines should be made at the state and local level level depending on each region's needs and circumstances instead of a national "one size fits all" approach.
The US is now the hardest pandemic hit country with more than 560,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases and more than 22,000 deaths.
