(VOVworld) – A green information technology (IT) forum opened in Hanoi this week. At the forum, hosted by the UN Industrial Development Organization and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), experts presented reports on IT and the environment, applying green IT to business, and world experience in applying green IT. They also discussed challenges presented by the green IT approach. They said IT plays an important role in people’s personal lives as well as in commercial production and distribution. Nguyen Quang Vinh is Director of the Office of Sustainable Business Development at VCCI: “Raising awareness is the most important way for businesses to avoid importing outdated IT equipment that would turn Vietnam into an IT dumping ground. Vietnam should issue strict regulations and sanctions to prevent importing old equipment into Vietnam. Such old equipment would aggravate concerns about the environment”.
