Themed “Rebuild Tourism, Rebound with Resilience”, the Forum gathered more than 250 delegates from Vietnam and other Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) nations and international tourism organisations.

Nguyen Trung Khanh, Director General of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, said the region’s tourism has seen an increase in visitor arrivals and product quality.

Green tourism and digital transformation are the keys to the Greater Mekong Sub-region’s tourism recovery, said Khanh.

The destinations of the Mekong countries should be quick to meet new requirements to improve the industry’s competitiveness. The pandemic underscored the benefits and importance of digital transformation for the tourism sector. It’s necessary to increase research, and high-tech solutions to serve tourists, businesses, and localities, and support safe tourism,” said Khanh.

First held in 1996, the Forum is an annual event for tourism development and cooperation within the GMS, which comprises Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam.
