(VOVworld) - Hamas said that Israel will pay for the kidnap and murder of a Palestinian teenager in Jerusalem on Wednesday. The murder is thought to be revenge for the earlier murder of three Israeli teenagers. Israel has accused Hamas of abducting and killing the three Israelis, and has opened an offensive against Hamas in the West Bank. In response, Hamas accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of ordering Jewish settlers to omit Wednesday’s kidnapping.
Although it remains uncertain who was behind the latest kidnapping, the incident triggered violent clashes in east Jerusalem between Palestinians and Israeli police, injuring dozens of people.
The White House denounced the killing of the Palestinian youth, urging local authorities to take steps to defuse the tension.
